Congratulations to our winners:
A delightful garden entirely planned and transformed out by Maggie and David who set themselves this daunting challenge when first coming to Wickham 7 years ago. They have turned their long and narrow 1 acre plot into an enchanting garden with a main garden with wildlife ponds linked by a small waterfall near the house down to a natural pond area and up a steep slope to a fantastic fruit and vegetable cage and small orchard. The garden is full of interesting plants, shrubs and wild flowers all lovingly cared for by Maggie and David.
This is a garden for all seasons and purposes: eating out, children, dogs, cats, wildlife etc. It has a good mix of plants (the perennials are mostly grown from seed by Jenny and Mike Hollis ) and shrubs with a clever design. There is a Mediterranean patio, seating areas, a winter garden, wild life pond and at the bottom not fairies but chickens! A delightful garden full of surprises designed as an extension of the indoor living space..
Jane took over Betty Darymple-Smith’s charming legacy and has created a beautiful and delightful traditional village cottage garden right in the middle of the village. From the garden there are fascinating glimpses of village roof scapes and the garden itself is crammed with unusual plants. Of particular note are the roses, little arbours and the productive vegetable garden cultivated amidst flowers and herbaceous plants. This is a gem of a garden where you could while away the summer.
Joan’s garden has been specially adapted for low maintenance with shingle paths and raised planted beds which are at an easy height for gardening. There are two separate garden areas full of pretty plants with different textures and colours. Joan has personalised the garden with her own knickknacks. The overall effect is delightful and is living proof that you are never too old to maintain a pretty garden.
This garden is only 2 years old so still has a way to go to reach maturity. It is a delightful woodland garden designed for all year round colour with woodland bark paths edged with wood which wind down the garden, a pond with a waterfall and shade loving plants and climbers in beds. Setting out the garden was particularly challenging because of the lack of sunlight coming through the trees but the end result is very effective. This is a garden with a difference.
Thank you to everyone who entered, the standard was extremely high.
We look forward to receiving even more entries next year!
